Masters 35+, Women, and Junior Race

Katie Compton-Trek (Wooden Wheels X) raced two races on her single-speed and dominated the women (and most men). She ran a smooth race and showed the cross crowd her awesome power. We'll contact her for an interview soon.

Mark Nickerson (Fuzzy)-Wooden Wheels had the best showing (11th Place) in the Masters 35+ for the team. This was his first cross race. He is 45 years old AND rode a single speed. I thought during the first lap that it would be no problem keeping up with the old man. I saw him slide out around a turn and go down. He bounced up and hardly lost a spot. Then later he had the nerve to cheer me on as he was about a half a lap ahead at that point and having a great time. He will be a strong addition to the Wooden Wheels team.
Alan Turns-Wooden Wheels ran a strong race keeping Fuzzy (Mark Nickerson) in his sights the whole race while also riding a single-speed. He placed 12th. Good job Alan!
I (Bill Deputy-Wooden Wheels) ran my first cross race finishing 13th. John Thompson-Wooden Wheels (3rd place Beginner at Granogue '99) came in right behind me placing 14th. John is a new addition to the Wooden Wheels team. We were both trying to catch a rider who had antlers on his/her helmet. We were always about 50 yards back but just couldn't bridge the gap. I had to turn on the steam full throttle to lose Justin Thompson's dad at the very end of the race. He has improved at a rapid pace since July and will be a force to be reckoned with next season!
Terry Blanch-Wooden Wheels placed 17th but would have been first place Clydesdale had the class been available. He ran a consistent race showing his diverse skills as a road, cross and mountain bike racer.
Joe Thompson-Wooden Wheels made his racing debut placing 3rd in the Junior race! He is 14 and brought home a medal first time out. This is no surprise as the Thompson family is a force to be reckoned with in bicycle racing.

The C Race

Don Morrison took the number one spot. He has become an avid cross racer. He was number one NORBA Master in the Mid-Atlantic region in 1998. Don ran the B race also!
Bill Trautmann-Wooden Wheels brought home a medal in his first cross race placing third in the C race. Great job Bill!
