This race in northern Jersey was an excellent
warm up for the coming season. The course was identical to many of the
national courses. It was a 7.5 mile lap and experts did 3 laps. The race
and each lap started with a 1 mile climb that was, steep, loose, and seemed
like it never ended. After that there was a little flat single and double
track and then we came bombing down. Once again TREK riders dominated
the scene with 3 first places and a fourth place. In the women's race
Tara Keefer continued her winning ways by winning comfortably.
She overcame dilemmas such as getting a flat tire and dropping her sun
glasses to have a good day.
In the Senior expert/pro/semi pro race,
TREK's Mike Yozell rode to a strong victory while showing
his strength and experience. In the same race, Mat Myers,
a TREK grassroots rider was riding very fast on this day and was in second
place. After a hard crash which caused a minor concussion Mat showed everyone
that he is a "Bad Man" by finishing in an amazing 4th place.
The Junior race got off to a fast start
with TREK's Justin Thompson leading the pack the wrong way!
It wasn't really the wrong way but it's all good. Justin used his mountain
goat instincts to break up the field on the first climb. After being caught
by one of the juniors up in the singletrack he decided to chill for a
little bit behind Scott Nevil. After gapping Nevil on the
fast downhill at the end of the first lap he decided to put the pedal
to the medal for the last two laps. Justin came in first place beating
second place Scott Nevil by about 8 minutes.
