In heated competition around a very technical course (Henry's
Bike Shop) - Dave Manhardt
and Rick Mihills took on
Marc Vettori and Paul
Gassler in the first Annual Basket Case Tandem Time Trial.
After several months of training by both dynamic duos (hill repeats, sprints, long overdistance and mental preparation) the Wooden Wheels team was actually a half a second faster in the 20 lap race - but were disqualified for not wearing helmets. Not so much because of safety - but they were under the weight limit according to the Basket Case Tandem Time Trial's officials.
