Running Through
Peanut Butter Mud
by Brian Kenny - Team Manager GARY FISHER MID-ATLANTIC MTB TEAM |
The 24-Hours of Snowshoe was a success not because we won, because we didn't. Instead we gained ever lasting name recognition and as a team we grew closer as friends. We ended up fourth in the Expert Men's field and fifth overall. If you know anyone who was there racing go and give them a hug. The race should have been called the 24 hours of running. It was amazing, each lap I would get to a climb and be happy because it meant I could finally ride. It took my wife, a girlfriend, two mechanics and a mom full-time to keep the four of us going in one piece, let alone competitive. The course consisted of at least five miles of running through peanut butter mud with rocky and rooty fields mixed in. We stuck it out and were second by just a couple of minutes until a mechanical on an evening lap bumped us to fourth where we eventually finished. For the first 12-15 hours our team was in a close race for first with team #30. Team #30 ran a perfect race with consistent 1.16-1.17 min lap times. Where we ran anywhere from 1.13-1.20 |
