What a Gentlemen

We could all benefit from the example of race leader David Duvall of Trek / VW. In a day filled with excitement, frustration, sweet single track and over 500 mountain bike racers I was disappointed by the behavior of many of the riders. These riders were frustrated by the jam-ups in the single track and let everyone around them know about it.

I heard many stories of people coming way too close to actual fistfights. Getting by slower people in single track is all part of what makes mountain biking so different and challenging. If you want the open road... there are many local road races. I have found that if you call out that you are intending to pass and give a side that people will gladly let you get by.

I was in one of the last sections of wicked fun single track when I heard "race leader", I merely moved my line to the left (I didn't have to stop) and David Duvall came by and as he passed me he said "thank you ma'am". Wow what a refreshing change from the road rage garbage that was going on earlier.
