Tour de Burg Race Report--Stage 1

A rising star emerged victorious this evening as French super star Jerome
Vimpty came within 15 seconds of driving home a new BMW. The "BMW 25 Minute
New Car Challenge", sponsored by the famous German
car manufacturer, was without a doubt a driving force behind today's
scorching times. A huge peloton was present to kick
off the 2000 tour, 18 riders including 4 women finished in today's General
Classification. Determined to make his mark on this
year's tour Italian Joel Maynario placed a strong second, 38 seconds back,
followed by last year's victor Bushetti who was another 18 seconds behind.
Riders were grateful for the favorable weather this evening, cool and
clear with temperatures in the low 70's, and the forecast is predicting perfect
conditions for the next few stages. Team green stayed close but showed
little form with only the Norwegian Chris Scott reaching the podium in 4th
place. Winning the women's race and showing an impressive finish amongst the
men was the Greek goddess Susa Haysus. A brief drug screening proved all team
alliances and all riders have been cleared for tomorrow's stage. Despite
facing two cat 4 climbs tomorrow morning racers seemed anxious knowing
that the tour has only begun.
