Trail Sensitivity
Reminder
by William C. Short Delaware Trail Spinners member |
It's easy to fool yourself when it's warm and sunny out during the day and
your bike is cooing "ride meee, ride meee, come on, riiiiide meeeeee".
BUT, it's like this: Trail is soft. You ride. You make a rut. Rain stays
in rut. Rut turns to muck. You ride in muck. More muck. You ride around
muck. Muck spreads. Hiker goes hiking and gets socky all muddy. NOW LOOK!
Everything is all mucked up and it's ALL our fault **ahem**.
Rule of thumb: if you can't walk through the shady part of your own yard in
your new whitey brighty sneakers without mucking them up IT'S TOO MUDDY OUT
TO PLAY.
Still wanna trail ride? Get your winter sagged butt out of bed, grab your
Darjeeling and croissant, (or chocolate milk and Fig Newtons) and get out
there early in the morning while the trail is still frozen from the
overnight low temperatures. DON'T RIDE ON SOFT AND GOOEY TRAILS Y'ALL. It
makes us all look bad.
[low monotone voice: the preceeding message is the opinion of the author
and does not necessarily represent the opinions of the delaware trail
spinners club, it's board of directors, it's affiliates, or it's
beer-swigging-burger-eating-fun-loving members and friends. but it is
damned good advice.]
