"Some days are sunny , you wish it was raining."

I can't remember all the words to that U2 song, but I sure can bond with it. Feeling confident and strong all week, I was pumped for Saturdays Canada Cup race #2 at Mt. Tremblant.

"Some days are sunny , you wish it was raining."

Man was it hot and humid! The gun went off at 11:30 am
and I don't know if the starter aimed at me or what, but the pace set by the front runners was too much for J to the U.

"Some days have bouncers that won't let you in."

I suffered and struggled through the first of 4 technical hilly laps. It was half way through lap #2 in about 13th place that I got a rhythm going and started to refocus, at said time, I flatted. On a positive note, I fixed it really quickly. Getting
my head back into the race was a great challenge for me, a little too great.

"Some days you hear a voice taking you to another
place."

I guess I remember more words to that U2 song than I
thought. Usually songs mean the most to you when you are falling in love or breaking up, but thanks Bono for the perspective.

"Some days just drop in on us."

The weekend was not over, although Mt. Tremblant is
one of the known party races where the XC racers actually show the DH racers how to party, (even Olympic man Kabush throws down here) I split and skipped the party so I could enjoy a road criterium race on Ottawa's Little Italia Preston street. One of Canada's oldest and most classic bicycle races. I enjoyed the slightly cooler weather and had a bit of fun mixing it up with the roadies who flocked in from Toronto and Montreal.

This years current Canada Cup XC leader Chad Miles had
a go on the road for his first ever road race. "It's my first time in a road race , cant you tell?" Borrowed bike and all.
I had a little Jacky Durrand inspired solo breakaway attempt for 6 laps and lucked out for 3 primes,(thanks due to Hard-core) but only too be swallowed again by the hungry pack. The racing was aggressive and a Torontonian took the win, Strong man James Brooks of the West Quebec Wheelers(Proud member myself!) took 5th, nice!

"Some days take less but most days take more."

We ended the day kicking back and cooling off in Meech Lake, "Some days are better than others."
