State Velo Sport & Henry's Bicycle Shop of Wilmington sponsored
their annual cross-country race Sunday August 8, 1999 at Iron Hill Park
in Newark, Delaware. There are usually two races a year at Iron Hill.
Another race is put on by the Delaware Trail Spinners October 24, 1999. Dave Radziewicz - Jamis placed FIRST OVERALL and first place Expert/Pro while not letting misfortune interfere with his iron will to win. Check out his interview. Katie Compton - Trek/Volkswagen dominated her competition as usual placing 1st in Women's Expert and placed 12th OVERALL! Justin Thompson - Trek/Volkswagen chose to race in the Senior Class (Justin is just 15yrs old) and put in an incredible performance placing third OVERALL! Both the Wooden Wheels and Mount Gretna teams made their presence known. Brent Biddle - First State Velo Sport Bicycle Club & Associates picked out an excellent course with plenty of climbing, a trip through the Mega-dip (a very steep valley about 30ft high on each side always drawing the most spectators), winding rocky singletrack (but not too rocky) with a few logs to jump over. It was a great course. The start up the gravel fire road from the lower parking lot gave racers plenty of room to separate before jumping into the singletrack. Each lap was approximately SIX miles. Beginners did 2 laps, Sport 3 laps, and Experts 4 laps. |

Newark, DE - The Wooden Wheels Race Team had the majority of their racers participate in the 1999 Iron Hill Classic XC race Sunday August 8th showing their support for this annual local event. 50% of the team members who raced placed in the top ten. |
