INTERVIEWS

March 11 - 12th, 2000
Gainesville, FL

Gone Riding Promoters Dave and Terri Berger did a wonderful job at promoting and organizing another super event in Gainesville, Florida. It was a beautiful two days (close to 70 degrees) and sunny both days - perfect for kicking off the Florida Spring Series - five races with a similar format:

  1. Gainesville AMBC - March 12
  2. Jacksonville -April 2
  3. Lakeland - April 16
  4. Tallahassee - May 7
  5. Reddick - May 28

Saturday night it rained just enough to keep the dust down for Sunday's cross-country event. Over 500 participants raced in the well organized event. There was a short-track event on Saturday plus a riders clinic in the morning sponsored by K2 / New Sun / Dirt Dobbers - with the competent Emily Jaffee/Team Director making sure everything ran smoothly.
Specialized had a tent set-up and were lending out test bikes all day long Saturday. K2 / New Sun / Dirt Dobbers had their tent set up making their presence known with a very strong group of riders. Also in town was the Trek South East Factory Team with their very strong group of riders and helpful mechanic (who even works on Cannondales for you).

Jeremiah Bishop - K2 / New Sun / Dirt Dobbers won the short track on Saturday traveling all the way from Baltimore, Md.

David Irving-Porterfield Tire placed 1st overall at 1:52 / 13.88 avg. speed. Andy Johnston - CDH was right on his heels 7.8 seconds back / 13.86 avg. speed. Jeremiah Bishop - K2 / New Sun / Dirt Dobbers who won the short track the day before and traveled from Baltimore, MD was a very respectable 3rd just 59 seconds back / 13.76 avg. speed. The battle was intense between the top group of riders. Passing lapped riders and fending for position on the flats was the name of the game. Check out their interviews!

KID'S RACE

Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. the children's races went off. Page 5 in the "Pictures" section has the majority of their photos.

DERECK QUIN won the 9-11 age group (his picture is on page 2 of "pictures"). He ran away from the crowd and looked more like a pro racer than someone in a kid's race.
JAKE MURPHY won the 6 - 8 age group. Murphy? Any relation to Linda?
ALLISON MERVAU won the 3-5 age group - way to go Allison!!
KIRSTEN FEE did a great job winning the girl's race.

Thank you
Jennifor Holcroft -
K2/New Sun for taking pictures of the third wave! She placed 2nd in Women Sport just :53 seconds back!
