Chris Eatough - Michaux Lives 2001

The Trek/VW team cleaned up at Greenbriar, with victories in both the men's and women's pro races. Sue Haywood continued her win streak with another dominating performance. Maybe we should persuade her to race in the pro men's field?
I was pleased to claim my first win of the season, especially since it came at Greenbriar, which was the site of my very first mountain bike race in 1995, and my first victory (1996). It continues to be a "lucky" venue for me, as I had a trouble free ride and came in about 4 minutes up on 2nd Place Jay Duffy.

My legs took a lap or two before they woke up; Sue and I both raced in the Tour de Warsaw road race the day before (Sue won the women's in a solo break, I finished in the chase group which just kept the peleton at bay for 65 of the 82 miles for 18th place), but I was able to make up time on the rocky downhills (full suspension and disc brakes all the way!) and build a lead in the second half of the race.

Two days of hard racing should prove good training as I prepare for the Norba Nationals, which start June 1 at Big Bear. My May racing schedule is based around this continued preparation and looks like this:

See you at the races!
