Guy's Bicycles has come a long way since
1995, when four racers (Adam Means, Bart Passanante, John Sokolowski,
and Kevin Perry) got together to race at Canaan. Since then, the club
has gone through several names (in 1996 we were the Bucks County Mountain
Club, in 1997 we became Guy's, and in 2000 we merged with the Breakaway
Fitness road team), a couple of jersey designs (see pics below), and has
grown to include more than 80 riders for the 2001 season. In between,
we've racked up some pretty impressive results: 4th place in the Vet Expert
field at Canaan in 1998; 4th in Vet Expert at Snowshoe in 2000; 3rd place
in the PA Cyclocross series in 2000; and too many top individual finishes
to list.

FAIR HILL CLASSIC The Fair Hill Classic July 15, 2001 in Elkton Md (just outside of Newark, DE at the Fair Hill Natural Resource Center looks to be our largest turnout yet. Great care was taken in selecting the very best single track for this year's super series course. Fair Hill has very accommodating facilities for a large venue. Indoor area for results/registration, plenty of restrooms, convenient parking, grandstands at finish/awards area plus it's only a stone's throw from a bustling college town - Newark, De where there are several choices for lodging and food. The best thing about this race however
is the sweetest single track (which makes up about 90% of the Expert/Sport
course) in the mid-Atlantic. Of course that's a subjective statement
however........ take the virtual
tour and see for yourself. This is NOT a lap race unless of course
you are doing the six hour Endurance Race which is new to the venue
this year. Excerpt from http://www.trailspinners.org/fairhill/ We
have added
an endurance race to our normal cross-country event. If you would like
to spin around an 7 mile loop (NOTE CHANGE IN LENGTH) for about 6 hours
to see who can complete the most laps, come out and join us. Participants
in this special endurance event do not need to pre-register (correction
to our earlier statement). Start time is 8 AM, finish time is 2 PM.
Only laps completed prior to the 2 PM deadline will be scored. If a
lap is started prior to the 2 PM deadline but not completed until after
2 PM, it will NOT be scored. We will have two classes: men and women.

Guy's is a unique club for lots of different reasons. We field road, mountain, cyclocross, and multisport squads that have competed internationally. (Okay-the tri team went to St. Croix. It counts!) Our roster includes some of the dominant racers in the Mid-Atlantic as well as some of the newest. While we pride ourselves on being a hard-riding, competitive team, we always keep in mind that racing should be about having fun and growing the sport. That's why we welcome all riders, whether they are experienced semi-pros like Mike Yozell, beginner women like Barb Kaufmann, single speed freaks like Les Leach, or crossover athletes like Ransom Weaver (an Olympic rowing hopeful who we are distracting to get dirty on the bike). We believe that race results alone don't make a strong team and that everyone has something to contribute. We're a bike club-not a high school clique. This spirit keeps all those Guy's riders (aka "The Sea of Green") coming out at Super Series races. We think that it's important to give back to the communities where we live, work, and ride. This year we are hosting four races; at least two of them will benefit local groups. Our July 3 road race supports the Cheltenham Fire Department; the September 9 Super Series race will raise funds for the Idlewood Environmental Station. We are also looking to develop some more specific programs in the future that will help us grow the sport. We will continue to strengthen our women's developmental program and start recruiting (some might say indoctrinating) junior riders. In the meantime we get to ride for a great local independent bike shop (www.guysbicycles.com) and a team that just won't quit.* * Except when we are hit by deer. Louis "The Deer Slayer" Secreto was taken out (with a dented frame & trashed rear wheel) by Bambi during the Race for Chocolate. Shouldn't he get a few extra points for that?
