PRO CANE CREEK Cane Creek - 2001
Willow Koerber of Asheville, NC started racing mountain bikes when she was 16. Since then while earning a degree she achieved the title of 3 time Collegiate National Champion. Willow has made a name for herself at the National level with several good placings in the NCS in '99 and '00. We are proud to have her on the team. She is spending a lot of time training with her very fast world-class racing friends in British Columbia and is looking forward to the 2001 season. Lanie Mason of Flagstaff, Arizona is very motivated this year after racing in Europe last year and gaining valuable experience. She has had some very good results (8th Place Pro Women - Big Bear '99). She loves training in her own backyard...... Flagstaff and Sedona and is very disciplined with her training. She has experienced the crazy crowds ringing cowbells and running along side of her yelling, "Die, Die, Die" - which means Go, Go, Go during the World Cup last year in Houffalize, Belgium. Lanie is ready to Go Go this year. Beth Frye of Jonas Ridge, North Carolina has been racing since 1996. She lives in one of the best places in the country (if not world) and trains with dedication. Her role models are Julie Furtado, Susan DiMattai and Tinker Juarez. Beth is relatively new to the Pro scene and has been consistently gaining experience. She knows how to have fun on the bike and looks forward to another successful season. Paul Bell plays different roles for the team (working with Andy and crew) keeping up with all of the factory rep duties, managing the team's affairs etc. while actually racing anything with two wheels. You will see Paul racing fast Dual Slalom, XC, BMX - or slow (He won the DUO PRO 24 Hours of Snowshoe 2000!!!). Also Paul has these results to be proud of:1st Place Semi-Pro - World Cup Conyers, Ga 1998 1st Place Dual Slalom - Snowshoe, WV AMBC 1999 Paul's bike even has history........ Litespeed Tellico '95 (one of the first six ever made - sent to Mountain Bike Magazine to be tested and then he got it). He is always a gentlemen and an excellent spokesman for Cane Creek. Thanks to our sponsors: Cane Creek, Lightspeed, Zeal Optics, Time, Continental, Easton, Cat Eye, Manitou, Giro, Diadora, SRAM, AXO |

ROOTS POTOMAC VELO CLUB Potomac Velo Club was founded in 1992 to promote the sport of cycling. Based in Northern Virginia, membership consists of about 30 riders at all levels of cycling experience. Some member have been on the racing scene for 20 or 30 years, others are just starting out. Some excel on the road, others venture into mountain biking, cyclo-cross and even track arenas. Membership is open to all, no specific skills or experience is required. One of Potomac Velo Club's strongest features is the promotion of yearly cycling events consisting of mountain bike and cyclocross races. In 2000, Potomac Velo Club promoted a Spring mountain bike race and 2 Fall cyclocross races. The cyclo-cross races were part of the newly hatched Virginia Cyclo-cross Series. In its first year, this four race series, split between Reston and Richmond, Virginia, saw great turnout and the future looks even brighter in 2001 for this fast-growing sport. For 2001, Potomac Velo Club has taken on a big challenge for its Spring mountain bike race. Dubbed the Legend of Lake Fairfax, we're capitalizing on our association with Lake Fairfax in Reston Virginia, where we hosted two successful cyclo-cross races this past Fall, to bring a race to this centralized location within 10 miles of the Washington, DC beltway. Seeing a hole in the early season mountain bike race schedule, due to the unfortunate demise of the well attended Eastern Shore Mountain Bike Championships held at Wye Mills, MD, we chose the date this race has traditionally been run to launch a race at our new venue at Lake Fairfax. Having lost our previous mountain bike race locale to ever expanding development, Potomac Velo Club is fortunate to find place to continue our tradition of bringing mountain bike races to the local community. We are also hoping folks will find our race a worthy substitute for the Eastern Shore race. The Legend of Lake Fairfax will be held at a county park featuring full facilities for racing patrons. The course is a 6 mile loop consisting of fast single and double-track terrain. Not too technical, but enough twists, turns and climbs to make you wish you'd trained a little more for this early season race. Also continuing our tradition of catering to the ever increasing single-speed crowd, Dragon's Bite III single-speed race will be run on the same course early in the day to avoid major conflicts with most of the geared racers. This is your chance to join fellow single-speeders to show your metal. The single-speed race is again sponsored by the wonderful folks at Phil Wood & Co. The Legend will offer all race categories from beginner through expert, with prizes from medals and merchandise to cash for the experts for the top racers. |
