2000 was the first year the SunRace/Santa

We won a World Championship (JR Women's DH, Kathy Pruitt) and we made
a lot of podiums. For 2001 we have stepped up the size and support of
the team, entering the XC field with heavy hitters Kirk Molday and Rachel
Lloyd as well as stepping up our DH team, keeping Aussie Joel Panozzo
and Kenny Burt, while adding Canadian wonder boy Jordie Lunn, and Aussie
John Waddell.
We have also hired Zak DeMeritt formerly of Team Yeti as the Head Wrench

WOODEN WHEELS
Wooden Wheels Racing Family
In the spring of 1995, a late night meeting at Deer
Park Tavern resulted
in a group of good friends deciding that since we trained together,
and
caravanned to races together, that we should make it official and
call
ourselves a team. With some results to back up our plan, Tom Harvey,
manger of Wooden Wheels was happy to support our fledgling team.
When the team was started our philosophy simple:
1. Have fun
2. Beambassadors for the sport.
To accomplish our goals we have strived
keep the team roster at a reasonable size so to foster a " family
feeling". We have always felt that it was important to have the
right
mix of individuals to build our team. It has been the chemistry of
the
team riders that has allowed our team to flourish. Sticking to our
strategy our team has grown and improved over the years. In 1995 we
had
only 8 riders, today we have 25 on our roster, all sport and expert
racers. Many of the riders on the team have been riding together for
close to ten years. We have stuck to the principles that chemistry
and
friendship will breed success and fun.
The team supports local trail maintenance initiatives,
as many of the team riders are
also active in the trail advocacy group the Delaware Trail Spinners.
This group
supports much of the New Castle County trail system. Additionally,
Wooden
Wheels holds their annual race "Escape from Granogue" on
the beautiful
Granogue Estate in Montchanin Delaware each year. Be careful, the
scenery
is beautiful, but the course is a beast. The race has earned the
reputation as being one of the toughest courses in the Mid Atlantic
Region. The race, part of the 2001 Mountainbikeracer.com Super Series,
is dedicated to the memory of Andrew Mein former team rider and team
coordinator, who was killed in a car/bike accident in 1999.
In addition to our success in the mountain bike
arena, Wooden Wheels is a two time
Mid Atlantic Cup Cyclocross Team Champions. As the 2001 season opens
up we
are excited about the upcoming Super Series, and hope to place riders
well in the overall series. We also plan to be represented at the
Mt.
Snow and SnowShoe NCS races, the Spring Michaux race, as well as the
24hrs of Snow Shoe and Allamuchy. We are honored to be selected as
the
Mountainbikeracer.com Grass Roots team of the month for April/May
2001.
