While we were covering the MAC cyclo-cross Finals on Dec. 3, 2000 Don Morrison informed us that he was thinking about putting together the Mid-Atlantic Super Series. He mentioned that there would not be a New Jersey Series this year and since the Wye Mills AMBC was canceled there would be a void in early spring. So to keep mountain biking alive and well in the Mid-Atlantic he thought of bringing back the Hibernia County Park race - just north of Coatesville, Pa on April 8th, 2001. There was a great turnout of over 400 racers IN THE RAIN! It would make a perfect start to a well- planned group of races that will have individual and team rankings, uniform age groups (including a Sport Men's 50+), a finite number of races (10 cross country events) all to be within about 2 1/2 hours driving time of each other, ending at Spring Mountain Resort, Spring Mount, Pa. Don has rounded up a group of seasoned promoters with each race keeping its own character, offering different challenges but taking on a whole new image by being part of the series. The average turnout for all 10 races last year was 426 racers! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Results, rankings and race coverage of each event will be available on this site. To know your present individual ranking or team ranking all you'll need is Internet access. If you race the series, we'll probably have at least one photo of you in action and you'll be able to keep track of how you or other competitors are doing as the series progresses. The series information will be linked from the menu bar (just click on the image in the center of menu bar). The race calendar, race coverage, current individual and team points, rules and regulations, categories and age groups and an explanation of the point system will be easily accessible 24 hours a day.
Get your teams ready to race the Hibernia Spring Bash, the new Blue Marsh race, the fast and furious hard pack of Fair Hill, the hot and heavy hills of Granogue and the challenges of Spring Mountain Resort (not to mention all of the great races in-between). Just think, you'll be able to e-mail your friend on the other side of the world a picture of you on the Internet competing in the Mid-Atlantic Super Series! Best of Luck. The
