If you have never raced Michaux before
and are familiar with French Creek State Park (Birdsboro, PA) -
it's like French Creek on steroids! It doesn't look too tough when
you look at the virtual
tour.......... however pictures are worth a thousand words........
but a thousand words won't give you the exhilarating feeling of accomplishment
after cleaning GRAVE
RIDGE without dabbing, or getting your rhythm on the three mile
trail. Most experienced regional riders are familiar with the incredibly
fun and challenging trials of Michaux State Forest. This has got
to be one of the toughest race courses on the east coast. If you
are looking for a smooth, easy, mostly level race course.............
stay home. This race if for pure mountain bike racers who relish
the thought of cleaning tough technical sections and climbing, climbing
and climbing some more. Large rocks, sharp rocks, slippery roots,
exhilarating downhills and tough climbs......... bring it on baby!
The
race would not be possible without the tireless promoters Jes Stith
- owner of Gettysburg
Bicycle and Fitness and Rich Winkelmann owner
of Granite
Hill Campground & Gettysburg
Bluegrass Festival.
They have been promoting Michaux races for years and we hope they
will continue! These guys have a great crew and to appreciate what
they do just imagine marking the 40 mile expert monster loop, the
expert loop, the sport loop and the beginner loop...... and figure
out how to get everyone out and back safely crossing a two lane road.
They also have a huge payout for a regional race - $500 for the fastest
man and $250 for the fastest women. Hats off to these guys for all
that they do for mtb racing.
I would like to thank Roger
Bird of TREK Bicycles
who is the man who without hesitation offered to help mountainbikeRACER.com
without knowing what races we were putting together. We are proud
to call the series the "Classic Series presented by
TREK".
Roger is also instrumental in generous sponsorship of Jess and
Rich's MICHAUX
SERIES. Michaux Maximus racers will receive points for the
Michaux Series and the Classic Series presented by TREK.
Our tent
had two laptops going and three "staff"
running around inputting registration information from the promoter's
hard copies so that results would be online soon after the race.
Tyler Keith - Series Points Director took time out of his busy schedule
(new Dad) and manager of the Blind Factory of DE. His excellent helpers
- Natasha Pollard and Alex Weiler of Wilmington, DE did various helpful
activities - handing out trophies, interview forms and video taping
the finish line as the racers came in. At one point they had to work
the laptops in Tyler's SUV with the heater running. The good thing
is they all thought it was fun. We appreciate their help and look
forward to working with them at the rest of the races.
